sweater season.

i've been known - like many of you i'm sure - to get lost in the magical cyber shopping world known as etsy. and today, thanks to the many lovely crafters out there, my virtual closet has been filled with warm, cozy, handknit masterpieces.

some of my favorites...

how yummy is this raspberry color?!

and i just love these major cables.

see? contrary to popular belief, a giant aztec wool sweater CAN be sexy. thank you, marilyn.

um, so this is heaven, in knit form. i mean, a giant cream colored hood - what could be better?

so, now that i have lured you into this cable knit heaven, i think now is the time that i should also let you all in on my little secret....so here it is...as you know, i have many loves in life (mr. frederickson, butternut squash, the cold side of the pillow, pinics, anything by kate spade) but my love for the giant sweater surpasses them all.

you know the sweater i mean - the giant almost cocoon like creation that engulfs your whole being and makes you feel tiny and warm all at once, even on the chilliest of vermont days. although, i must admit, at times this obsession has caused tension and lead to slight depression (i.e. the shapeless gray turtleneck circa winter 2005 - 2008) however, thanks to the beauties above, i have good faith that this winter i will master the art of being slightly stylish without giving up an ounce of warmth.

so, happy sweater season to you all! make it a great one, i know i will.

foodie pride.

how cute are these state by food tote bags? what a cute way to cart home all your favorite local finds from the farmers market. i think i want one.

actually, on second thought, i could go for a rhode island coffee milk and some mississippi mud pie right about now. although, i'm not so sure if i will ever be intrigued by utah jello (?)

thanks to my friend at old sweet song for crushing on the soho and ultimately leading me to yet another fabulous etsy find. you ladies are simply fantastic.

curbside shopping.

one of the things i love most about vermont is the way people have impromptu yard sales. aka - they leave things they no longer have a use for in their driveway or just on their front porch, often with a handwritten cardboard sign, and welcome folks to just take what they please and leave a few dollars if they can. it's genius, really. and if you are up for a nice little saturday drive along some back roads, you are certain to find some little treasures along the way.

we also have some fabulous markets and stores all across the state - including anjou & the little pear, antiques at camelot village the flynn avenue sunday markets, architectural salvage warehouse, and so many more! and, thanks to the lovely kate over at the goodie life, i just came across this amazing home decorated in all things from garage sales, craigslist, curbs and flea markets (with a little ikea thrown in) and it has made me want to get after it this weekend and go on a hunt for some hidden surprises. see for yourself...

{headboard made from old moldings and leftover wallpaper...genius}

{teak chairs from craigslist $50 each plus reupholstering; sofa $25 and lamp $3, both from a garage sale.}

{wooden table top $10; industrial base $150; ikea parsons chair $50 - from 'as is' section}

can you say wow!? are you as inspired as i am? care to go curb shopping with me this weekend? or if you are already onto this trend - want to share your brilliance with us - any curbsides or flea markets or antique stores you frequent that we should no about!? c'mon...it's not fair to keep all the good stuff a secret.

where you came from.

i simply love this colorful handpainted map courtesy of the royal we by oliver jeffers. it's lovely as is, but the best part is, it comes with 100 orange pushpins to track your travels and one red pin to mark your home base....so you never forget where you came from, or where you've been.

thanks, lake jane for the tip (-:

VTuesday Shoesday

i have a confession to make. i have a major girl crush on emerson made.
i know what you're all thinking. how can this be possible since she is from all the way over the river in new hampshire? well, it's true. even though she lacks a vermont zipcode, she is just the most fabulous designer, blogger, and fashionista north of I-495! (and truth be told, i have a little new hampshire in me as well) plus, emerson rocks red lipstick, plays with mice and ducks, has a farmhouse and a pantry to die for, she uses exclamation marks with abandon, wears her hunter boots with party dresses, and designs the most fabulous flower confections, including these "dahlia trotting blooms" which promise to liven up even the saddest, most boring pair of shoes.
so, this tuesday shoesday is all about taking what you have - ballet flats, pumps, hunter boots, flip flops - and making them a little extra special. plus, these dahlias would make really cute (birthday) party shoes, don't you think...? (hint, hint)

VTuesday Shoesday

i completely forgot what day it was when i woke up this morning (hazards of a working weekend, i suppose) but when i turned my computer on, i was thrilled to realize that it was already the best day of the week...and you know what that is! happy tuesday shoesday to you all!

last night on a late night stroll with mr. frederickson, i saw these lovely sandals in a store window and immediately fell in love. then, after a little morning research my love and need (yes, need)for these shoes grew for several reasons...

  1. they are called get outta town - what better name for these happy little summer sandals? they are just dying for a summer weekend away.
  2. they come in a million colors (yellow, blue, black, pewter, oh my!)
  3. that at tootsies (the fantastic shoe store/nail salon in burlington where these shoes were discovered) from now until july 4th when you buy two pairs of shoes totaling $100 or more you receive a coupon for 50% off the pedicure of your choice! shiny painted toes and a new pair of bright blue sandals? quite the heavenly combo if you ask me...

the green life.

please don't judge me, but i have to admit that there was awhile where i hated the green movement - it felt too forced and trendy and it drove me crazy seeing people driving gas guzzling SUVs but carrying their groceries in cute little eco-tote bags and wearing tshirts that said "i live green" and "earth day rocks".

however, that was then (2007) and this is now. and now, i have fully embraced the green movement (you should have seen our recycling bin this morning!) but it's easy up here in the woods, because, as the bumber sticker says, "vermont - we were green before it was cool."

so, my new favorite addition to this green lifestyle is a burlington, vt store aptly called the green life. it is full of wonderfully environmentally friendly items for you and your home - linens, furniture, bath products and cozy cozy blankets. definitely worth a visit. odds are, it will make you go a little bit greener.
