thank goodness...

...it's friday. i for one could not be happier! mr. frederickson and i are headed to yet another wedding, but this one is in our home state of vermont, so you just know it will be a good one! other than, we are just going to take in the crisp fall air and the welcomed change of season.
but to take you all through the last few hours of the week, check out some of these inspirations from cyber land. the internet never fails to amaze me.
  • cozy fall fashion(aka giant sweaters) can be found here, here and here.
  • diy fire pits - the newest fall necessity
  • rue magazine is here! and it's sensational.
  • how lucky am i to have this little lady as my cousin? think she is cute? just wait till you hear what she has to say next tuesday.
  • what better way to round out eatlocal week than by prepping one of these localvore recipes? major bonus points if the recipe calls for squash.
  • ...or if cooking isn't your cup of tea this weekend, just head down to the chubby muffin - burlington's newest bakery (i can't get enough of that name!!!)

lots to love this weekend.

{via}

life feels pretty lovely these days. and for that i have to thank the the sunny weather, the return of mr. frederickson, and the promise of a great weekend. so there is without a doubt an extra spring in my step today and the countdown to the weekend is on! but in the meantime, a few favorites from here in vermont and around the web:
  • can't wait to go to the ansel adams exhibit at shelburne museum
  • i am sucker for anything with the word rustic - so you know i heart these ladders
  • as if we weren't excited enough for sunday - check out this mashup video. so inappropriate and so wonderful all at the same time
  • simply dying over these mason jar lanterns
{via lady grey}

  • a must try: the brand new made in vermont dwarf goat cheese (huh?! exactly.)
  • i love trucks too. especially the kind that show up at parties with dessert.
  • state fair season has begun! and these images from vermont photographer extraordinaire daria bishop tell quite the story.

{via daria bishop}

  • so proud to be one of her cousins!
  • can you even imagine how lovely this must smell!?
  • i have been dreaming about a weekend here.
  • there is a soft spot in my heart for brandi carlile and this song. looking forward to the concert in vermont next week!

make it a great one! see you monday! XOXO

one hot gypsy summer.

i am a gypsy. between work and all sorts of fun personal commitments (showers, weddings, parties, oh my!) i am on the road for much of the summer. which on one hand makes me really sad, as summer in vermont is the greatest, but on the other hand, the silver lining is that i get travel to all sorts of other fabulous places throughout new england. so, if it is ok with you all, i am going to take you along for the ride - hope you don't mind! and please, if you have any must see sights or must visit locations, or must eat meals, let me know. i need some help as i wander. and, while i do love vermont, i also love the vermont state of mind - and that, my friends, you can take anywhere!

so in the spirit of list making, here is some of what i am looking forward to this summer:

  • spending many a beach day on nantucket, followed by sunburned trips to bartlett farm (rivaling those in vermont for the best farmstand of all time)
  • getting my twirl on at one fabulous wedding here
  • sporting this tote bag all summer as the official gypsy carryall
  • getting my fill of microbrews at the vermont brewers festival
  • stalking my girl crush, emerson made, at her portsmouth, nh hideaway - hopefully just in time for the august launch of her clothing line (eek!)
  • discovering the best local ice cream every place i go. an excellent summer goal, if i may say so myself
  • making these summery cocktails. new motto: have mason jars, will travel
  • trying to get to maine for this, which just might be the tastiest festival of all time
  • convincing mr. frederickson to hike mt washington with me and our fun and fabulous friends (i need a little help on this one)
  • enjoy every second of this fleeting season here in new england...it will be september before we know it. although, i think fall is pretty fabulous too...

so, what about you? what are you looking forward to this summer?!

crossing my crossables...

{leap of faith via weheartit}

the sun is just beginning to shine up here in vermont and i am crossing all my crossables that it stays out all weekend! so, i am taking a leap of faith that the weather might cooperate and that i will be able to cross a few (just a few) things off my summer to do list, including the following:
  • take advantage of vermont days and enjoy a free visit to one of the 52 of state parks
  • make these yummy treats for saturday's barbeque, or if time gets away from me, i might just bring ice cream sandwiches from this magical little spot.
  • pick some strawberries. 'tis the season (-:
  • pretend i am a music buff and listen to some jazz at the closing night of the discover burlington jazz festival.
  • drive around looking for some curbside treasures like the vintage ladder this lucky lady found.
  • drag mr. frederickson to the waitsfield farmer's market. my pitch will go a little something like this: c'mon, honey, it will be fun. i even promise to buy something and not just waste time looking at all the tasty treats and perfectly ripe vegetables. and then i will take you to an even tastier brunch at red hen bakery before we head home to for beers and world cup soccer watching...ppllleeeaasssee! what do you think? will it work?

so here's to making the best of what we get this weekend! i hope yours is all you wish it to be.

XOXO

weekend conundrum.

{image via love trains}

there are no words to describe how excited i am for this weekend. the reason being that it is one of the very few this summer where we have absolutely nothing on the books (ok, that's a lie - we do have an afternoon bbq on saturday - a celebration with some of my favorite fellow runners of this year's vcm about which i am very excited!)

there is just so much i want to do and i feel like i need to cram my entire summer to do list (yes, i have one) into two short days. aka - i am finding the lack of plans and abundance of free time a bit overwhelming. so, i think i need your help! what are you doing this weekend? if you had 48 hours of free time, how would you spend it? for you fellow vermonters - is there an event this weekend that we simply should not miss or a restaurant we must try?

help me. i'm a desperate woman and mr. frederickson thinks i am nuts. (can you blame him?!)

top ten tuesdays - may to dos.

it is a dreary dreary afternoon here in vermont, and i am pulling out all the stops to try and brighten my day. my mood this morning was lifted thanks to kate spade's lovely polka dots, but this afternoon required me to take some extreme measures...yes, that's right, friends. it's to do list time.

you all know that nothing makes me happier than a good list, especially when it is filled with so much anticipation and excitement about all that lies ahead in the wonderful (and celebratory) month of may!

may to dos...

  1. run the dandelion half marathon in derby, vermont. how can you NOT want to participate in an event named after - and in support of - the cutest weed there is?
  2. indulge in a little vermont restaurant week gluttony. soo many yummy choices. how is a girl to choose?
  3. shop the simon pearce tent sale for wedding gifts for all the brides to be in my life. (it's not posted yet, but it will be soon. and trust me, it's worth the research!)
  4. experience the water & wine tour at boyden valley winery. a canoe trip down the lamoille river followed by a tasting and a tour. yes, please.
  5. two words - farmers. markets. (opening day in burlington is may 8th)
  6. take a ferry ride across lake champlain. just 'cause it sounds like fun.
  7. enjoy the view (and the yummy drinks) at splash & breakwaters.
  8. go to the sunset drive in.
  9. enjoy every painful second of the vermont city marathon with the rest of the american cancer society runners! i love you all (-:
  10. say good bye to 27 and welcome the big 2-8 with open arms. i think it's going to be a very good year.

alright, folks, there you have it - my may to dos. what am i missing? what's on your to do list?

hello, weekend!

it's the perfect friday afternoon....the sun is shining, the grass is (finally) green and the tables are out on chuch street! which means it's officially spring here in vermont and as my dad would say, "it doesn't get any better than this!"
and on my to do list this weekend, is, well, nothing! except for a pesty 18 mile run and a party in a barn, i have 2 whole days to soak life up and celebrate this very welcomed change of season.
the collage above is just a little taste of what i am hoping the weekend will look like - complete with homemade pizza, flip flops, sunsets, mr. frederickson, quiet dirt roads, patio drinking and maybe a little day trip to lake dunmore - one of my favorite secret vermont destinations.
*i couldnt resist including the photo of my lovely mother and kevin, the best waiter in all of jamaica, as i will certainly be giggling about that moment all weekend and wishing (just a litle bit) that there was still an umbrella in my drink...

happy weekend and happy spring!
make it a great one. xoxo

outstanding in a field.

i dream about dinner parties.
i dream about long banquet tables covered with crisp white linens.
i dream about the conversations that happen around this table.
i dream about having a vegetable garden and a vineyard in my backyard.
and this dream of mine is about to come true.
well, it will on august 17th @ petes greens in craftsbury, vt.

outstanding in the field is a magical tour bus, aka a roving culinary adventure aka, a restaurant without walls, that travels far and wide bringing this very dinner party (complete with white linens and mason jars) to communities across the country. they play host to the celebration that honors the local people whose good work brings food & wine to the table.

so, how does this magical dinner party work? well, its simple, really. it's a celebration of local ingredients prepared by a talented chef of the region and enjoyed by everyone -from the farmer to the artisans, to regular people like me - at a long, splendid banquet table, under the stars.

have i captured your attention yet?! to learn more about the event here in vermont, or one at a farm table near you, visit their site and prepare to be amazed (or in my case want to hop on the party bus and go with them!)

top ten tuesdays - to do...

without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. dreaming, after all, is a form of planning. - gloria steinem
it's a good day to dream and in my mind, it's always a good day to plan. plus, gloria is right - life is all about possibilities - both those planned and those that surprise you. and being the planner that i am, the idea that dreaming fits into the planning category, is just amazing to me.

so with gloria's words of wisdom in mind, i am going to create a dream to do list each month - events i want to go to, places i want to visit, food i want to eat - so that there is plan to the madness and the moments and the possibilities. it's more fun that way and it's always good to have things to look forward to. plus - I want all your feedback! i need your suggestions and inside scoop as i dream about the possibilities of what the coming months here in vermont have to offer.

top ten april to dos...
  1. run the middlebury maple run (aka the sweetest half) - april 25th. 2nd annual 1/2 marathon in middlebury. complete with a post race party at two brothers tavern.
  2. explore pine street, burlington, vt - my new favorite part of the city. it's off the beaten path, but full of wonderful treasures - yummy food, great coffee, and plenty of art galleries and vintage shops. thanks to design sponge for the inspiration road map.
  3. stop by st albans maple sugar weekend - april 30th. st albans. silly me, i thought all the sugaring celebrations were behind us!
  4. blunch (yes, blunch) at claire's restaurant, hardwick, vt.
  5. hike camel's hump - after the snow melts, before the crowds.
  6. enjoy a sunset picnic at charlotte beach with some tasty take out from pizza on earth (reminder - order 2 pies, 1 not enough)
  7. spend the day in stowe just exploring this quintessential vermont town. lots there to discover thanks to all the great trips recommended at trazzler.
  8. sunshine day dream festival - april 17th. killington. a tribute to the grateful dead. spring skiing + tiedye + live music + pond skimming = amazing. jerry would be proud.
  9. mud season variety show. april 16th & 17th. randolph . this annual rite of spring features local talent and local humor. hurry! the whole town goes which means the 575-seat chandler music hall sells out!
  10. wine taste at boyden valley winery. c'mon, its wine - no explanation necessary.

so, what do you think? what am i missing? what is on your to do list this month? c'mon, try it, it's fun!
